Uncertainty is an inherent aspect of the real world, and engineering decisions must often be made in its presence. A rational and systematic approach to managing these uncertainties is essential for informed decision-making in modern civil engineering design, maintenance, and operations. Probabilistic methods offer versatile frameworks for quantifying uncertainty and/or reducing uncertainty by assimilating valuable information from measurement data across diverse applications. This presentation will show application examples in structural engineering and related fields facing similar challenges.
